If larger properties and peace and quiet are on your wish list then South Jingle Pot is a neighbourhood worth exploring.
Considered by many to be a rural paradise, the majority of the South Jingle Pot area consists of acreages, sprawling properties, and farms with newer subdivisions emerging closer to the downtown area. There is an abundance of green space and access to recreational activities, yet at the south end is just minutes from shopping and all downtown amenities.
The Nanaimo Christian School is located in South Jingle Pot while the area’s elementary school students in the public school system would go to Mountain View Elementary in North Jingle Pot for K to Grade 7 while students in Grade 8 -12 would go to Nanaimo District Secondary School located in the University District.
Residents of South Jingle Pot are minutes away from shopping options in Central Nanaimo and the Old City while the proximity to the highway allows convenient access to all other retail areas in the community.
Those who call both South and North Jingle Pot home enjoy a tranquil, rural setting in the valley under Mt. Benson, with access to an abundance of year-round outdoor recreational activities on their doorsteps from swimming and paddle boating to fishing, and from walking and hiking to mountain biking.
Residents of South Jinglepot are well situated to access all entertainment options offered throughout the Nanaimo area from bowling and arcade games at Splitsville in the neighboring University District to an art exhibition in the Old City just minutes away, while sports fans won't have to travel far to watch a Clippers hockey game or any of Nanaimo's other sports teams.
Predominantly rural, residents in South Jingle Pot are accustomed to the short car ride to the downtown core and to other communities and therefore to the abundance of dining options offered throughout Nanaimo.
Much of the Jingle Pot area is rural and therefore offers its own outdoor recreational opportunities however South Jingle Pot is perhaps best known for the Westwood Lake Park one of the city’s best-loved parks. Only 4km from downtown Nanaimo, the forested park in the foothills of Mt. Benson, is a favourite choice for swimmers, paddlers, and anglers while the 5km+ trail around the lake provides an ideal setting for walkers, runners, and mountain bikers. Connected by a trail to the Westwood Lake area is the Morrell Nature Sanctuary - private, but open to the public, the sanctuary is set on 278 acres of forested park that includes a small lake, a picnic shelter, a rocky viewpoint, and a beaver pond.
