If you are looking for affordable peace and quiet and privacy, Extension might be a good fit.
Predominantly offering larger lots and acreages with an abundance of outdoor pursuits, Extension has a good mix of older and newer homes as well as mobile homes and is generally more affordable than many other Nanaimo communities.
There are no schools in the Extension area of Nanaimo and so K through Grade 7 students will attend nearby Chase River Elementary in Chase River and John Barsby Secondary in South Nanaimo for those in Grade 8 - 12.
Residents in the Extension area will get many of their daily shopping needs met in nearby Chase River with Nanaimo’s amenities just a short drive away.
Virtually abandoned when the mines closed in the early 1900s today the Extension area is a small, peaceful, rural community that offers many activities in its natural setting from hiking to activities on the Nanaimo River which runs through the area. For those seeking more exhilarating outdoor adventure Wildplay Nanaimo would be the location of choice for people throughout the area, offering climbing, zip-lining, jumping, and swinging through the trees.
Due to its quiet, rural setting, area residents are accustomed to driving to Nanaimo and other neighboring communities for the host of entertainment options offered in the surrounding area from movies and plays, to sports events and bowling all available a short drive away. However, Extension does offer its own entertainment option for those seeking more exhilarating outdoor adventure such as climbing, zip-lining, jumping, and swinging through the trees at Wildplay Nanaimo located in the area.
Predominantly rural, the only restaurant option in the Extension area is the Timberland Pub located in Cassidy, offering pub fare with traditional Indian cuisine, while Cedar is a short drive away and is home to several food establishments, and all dining options offered in Nanaimo are also easily accessible.
Though there are no designated parklands in the Extension area its rural, natural setting, rivers and small bodies of water provide a host of opportunities for those looking to enjoy what nature has to offer.
