Why You Would Want To Live in Diver Lake

If you are looking for a safe family neighbourhood close to north-end and central amenities and the highway but with outdoor pursuits on your doorstep, Diver Lake might be a good fit. 

Area Overview

A mix of older and newer properties, homes in this community are generally well maintained and more affordable with a variety of options ranging from single-family homes to townhomes and patio homes.

Schools

There is one elementary school for students from K to Grade 7 in the Diver Lake area of Nanaimo, Coal Tyee Elementary, while the former Mt. Benson Elementary school is now home to the Learn at Home K-12 facility.  Students in the regular school system in grades 8 to 12 would go to Wellington Secondary School located in Departure Bay.

Shopping

Shopping in the Diver Lake area is largely industrial in nature with multiple retail businesses spread throughout the area catering to the home building, servicing, repair, and renovation industries, in addition, it is in this area that you will find several car dealerships.  Closer to the more densely populated area around Bowen Road you will find grocery stores and pharmacies while area residents are minutes away from amenities in Uplands, Departure Bay, and Central Nanaimo.

Recreational Opportunities

As its name suggests, the Diver Lake area is home to Diver Lake providing area residents with many offshore recreational opportunities.  Though gas-powered boating is not permitted on the lake, small electric motorboats are permitted and there is a fishing float. For onshore activities, the lakeside park offers walking trails, wildlife viewing, a playground, a fitness circuit, and a BMX track.  In addition to the lake and falling within the Diver Lake area are numerous recreational facilities and amenities in the Beban Park complex: an indoor pool, the Cliff McNabb Arena, soccer fields, two artificial turf fields at Merle Logan, walking trails, a fitness circuit, tennis courts, basketball hoops, a playground, a BMX track, a seasonal petting farm, an equestrian centre, a dog park, and a golf course and driving range at the Beban Park Golf Course.

Entertainment

Diver Lake residents can access different forms of entertainment across the community from their central location close to both highways. From watching a VI Raiders football game at Caledonia Park to the performing arts at the Port Theatre, the Nanaimo area offers a variety of options designed to satisfy all entertainment needs.  The Diver Lake community is also home to the premier recreational complex in Nanaimo, Beban Park, a location of choice for sporting events, recreational activities of all kinds, and a venue for expos and exhibitions throughout the year.

Restaurants

With its proximity to both highways and therefore to other area communities to satisfy all culinary taste buds, residents do also have a couple of local options the most notable of which is Smokin' George's BBQ which was featured on the TV show "You Gotta Eat Here".

Parks

The Beban Park recreational complex, the premier complex of its kind in Nanaimo, is located in the Diver Lake community offering all residents a host of activities and facilities while the area’s namesake park, the Diver Lake Park, is one of the City of Nanaimo’s official sports fields, and provides options for wildlife viewers, fitness buffs, walkers, BMX’ers, and children.  Among the other parks within the area is the Northfield Nature Park, also known as the Starlight Trail Nature Park, which offers a network of ungroomed trails.
